The Renewable Energies Engineering Department of Shahid Beheshti University is located at the Faculty of Mechanical and Energy Engineering. The central focus of this department is to develop advance researches in the area of the renewable energy as well as to train expert researchers. To achieve this goal, as an initial stage, the first phase of the Renewable Energies Engineering Laboratories complex was founded into four laboratories between 2012 and 2014. The laboratories include:
- On-grid Fixed Photovoltaic Solar Lab.
- On-grid Tracking Photovoltaic Solar Lab.
- Energy Hybrid Systems (Microgrid) Lab.
- Wind Turbines Lab.
From 2014 to 2015, the second phase of Renewable Energies Engineering Laboratories Complex was set up in five laboratories in order to complete the research process in the fields of renewable energy. In addition to the above mentioned labs, in 2015, the management of the Electricity Physics Laboratory at the Faculty of Mechanical and Energy Engineering was assigned to the Renewable Energies Engineering Laboratories Complex of Shahid Beheshti University. The labs of this phase include:
- Renewable Energy Simulators Lab.
- Nanotechnology in Energy Generation Lab.
- Nanotechnology in Energy Storage Lab.
- Solar-Thermal Systems Lab.
- Fuel Cells Lab.
- Electricity Physics Lab.
From 2017 to 2018, the third phase of Renewable Energies Engineering Laboratories Complex was set up in two laboratories in order to complete the research process in the fields of renewable energy. The labs of this phase include:
- Nexus of Water, Food & Energy Lab.
- Energy Harvesting Lab.
According to the Department's future plan, prior to 2021, the development and improvement of the existing nine laboratories will be conducted. Also to complete the research process in other areas of renewable energy engineering, establishment of five new laboratories including:
- Design and Modeling of Energy Systems Lab.
- Active-Passive Energies Lab.
- Blue Energy Lab.
- Bio Energy Lab.
- Geothermal Energy Lab.
has been considered in the planning of the expansion of the Renewable Energies Engineering Laboratories Complex.
